FAQs

How often should I go to the dentist?

It is usually recommended to visit the dentist twice a year for routine exams and cleanings. In the event you are experiencing any unusual symptoms (pain, sensitivity), it's wise to schedule an appointment as soon as it begins.
Routine visits and addressing concerns quickly can often avoid major problems from arising!

How much will my visit cost me?
Cost of treatment varies depending on the services needed. Please give us a call and we will review several things with you to give you the most accurate estimate. We will review things such as symptoms, dental history, and what you are hoping to accomplish.

I have really bad dental anxiety and haven't been in years. What should I expect?
We gladly welcome you to our office and try to make you feel as comfortable as possible. You will complete paperwork and get checked in. Depending on the reason for your appointment, either an assistant or hygienist will start with reviewing your medical and dental history, and review your concerns. We will then take x-rays as needed and begin the cleaning or treatment process. We encourage you to ask any questions you have as we go through the appointment. Dr. Tumlin will complete an examination and review any areas that need attention or additional treatment.
We strive to communicate as we move through your appointment to ensure you remain informed, understand, and are comfortable.

What are out of network benefits?
Insurance has a wide variety of plan options with differing coverage. Out-of-network benefits would cover visits to providers that do not have a contract with your insurance carrier. Insurance companies have specific rates that they will pay for each service code, and it various on your policy benefits. It is common that you may have a higher patient portion utilizing out-of-network providers, compared to their 'preferred list,' so we strongly encourage you to verify that you do have OON benefits, and to what extent they cover for services.

Will you contract with my insurance company?
Not at this time. Such agreements can limit the level of care we can offer in our general practice, often requiring referrals to specialists to comply with their guidelines. We believe in providing treatment based on our professional judgment and making referrals when necessary, without third-party influence on our decisions.

I know I need dental work but don't know where to start. What do you recommend?
We recommend starting with a cleaning and examination. During this process, our hygienist will take x-rays to establish a baseline, measure probe depths to check for gum disease, clean your teeth, and report any findings to the dentist. Dr. Tumlin will then perform his own oral examination and discuss his findings with you, outlining any necessary treatments and their details. Additional x-rays, photos, or assessments will be conducted as needed. Once Dr. Tumlin addresses any questions you may have, one of our patient care coordinators will help schedule any required treatments and provide cost estimates.

If you have any other questions, please give us a call and we would be happy to discuss!
